What is stormwater?
Stormwater is rain water or water from melting ice that runs off of hard surfaces instead of soaking into the ground. When water soaks into the ground it becomes filtered, but when there is excess water it collects into storm sewers via pipes and ditches. As this water runs off into these collection areas, it carries pollutants like chemicals, bacteria, and eroded soil that goes into streams, rivers, lakes, or wetlands.
What is stormwater management?
Stormwater management are ways that can improve the runoff by creating ways to control where the excess water goes, and by keeping pollutants out.
